Today is a Flex Day for the West Noble School Corp. Kids are working on eLearning assignments while staff members have been involved in team meetings, online tutorials and an informal learning session with Carrie Hoffman from Parkview Health regarding the new Shared Clinic for West Noble Schools. Specifically for the clinic, this is a new benefit for West Noble staff and their families to help with medical needs. Hoffman answered questions ranging from the clinic benefits, how it relates to insurance, what types of services can be rendered, and fielded direct questions from employees.
The kids aren't on campus today, but it was still a busy day with our staff and we continue to learn and grow!

West Noble held its Fitness Center open house Friday evening at the high school, inviting the community to see West Noble's latest jewel to its campus. Among the evening was a photo opp in the weight room with members of the West Noble School Corporation school board as well as Ligonier mayor, Earle Franklin.
Before the start of the West Noble-Fairfield boys basketball game, Franklin was presented a commemorative plaque from West Noble school board president Joe Hutsell as West Noble superintendent recognized the moment.
We thank the Ligonier Redevelopment Commission for their support in helping complete the fitness center, and to all those who brought the center to life!

Certainly not the way she would want to go out. But let's take a positive spin on Destiny Martinez's historic run to the IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals.
Martinez went 1-1 in her first two contests of the day, serving as the first-ever West Noble female wrestler to make the state finals. The senior won her first match, then lost her second match, sending her to the consoles of the 170-pound placement ladder.
In her third contest against Munster's Allyson Compton, things were moving along at a slow pace, neither competitor really gaining much of an advantage. Compton held just a 2-0 lead off a reversal from the restart, but an awkward fall had Martinez bounce her head on the mat. Play was halted and Martinez was checked out by medical personnel and deemed unable to continue, forfeiting the match. Time didn't catch up to the West Noble senior as the seventh-place match against Wawasee's Kenadi Pierce loomed, and Martinez had to take a medical default.
So a 1-3 day is what the history books will show, but the one win in the first round allowed Martinez to become a state placer, taking eighth overall in her weight class and earning a 20th win on the season.
Martinez will always be the historical 'first' footnote, the first Lady Charger to take part in a Parade of Champions, the first to wear an IHSAA State Finals shirt with her likeness on the back, and the first to earn a medal.
From the West Noble community, congratulations Destiny, what a career! Be proud of your accomplishments!

A championship dream won't be realized, but Destiny Martinez can still finish her career with a win.
In the quarterfinals of the 170-pound bracket at the IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals, Martinez ran into Annabelle Redman of Columbus East, and ran into a takedown just a minute into the first round. That was the only move Redman needed as she worked Martinez into a sticky position and into a pin at 1:21 to advance to the semis, sending Martinez to the placement brackets.
Martinez can finish no higher than fifth, but no lower than eighth. Her next matchup will be against Allyson Compton of Munster, and then face either Eleanor Robertson of Franklin Central or Kenadi Pierce of Wawasee.
Stay tuned!

BREAKING NEWS!
We are going to have a state placer at the IHSAA Girls Wrestling State Finals!!!
Destiny Martinez won her opening round match against Beech Grove's Josilin Stinson in commanding fashion to advance to the final eight, which guarantees a placement on the podium in the 170-pound bracket.
Martinez opened the first period with a takedown and added another takedown in the second period to own a commanding 6-0 lead heading into the third period. Choosing bottom to start the period, Martinez worked out of Stinson's hold into a reversal, and eventually into a pin at the 28-second mark (4:28) to advance.
Martinez now draws Columbus East's Annabelle Redman, who won her match in similar fashion with a pin early in the third.

A reminder to our West Noble families:
We are into a very busy month of testing, which will continue into the spring as well. We would like to encourage our families to remind our kids (and ourselves) to make sure we are getting plenty of sleep at night, a nutritious breakfast and lunch, and finding ways to relax and recharge during this testing phase.
If you need help with nutrition needs, please contact your school principal or your guidance counselors. We want our kids to be at their best for testing, and continue to learn and grow at West Noble.
