Mrs. Lisa Crick has been a school counselor since 2000. She is married and has three sons, currently living in Laotto.

She attended Churubusco High School. She went to college at Indiana University in Bloomington, IN where she double majored in Spanish and Criminal Justice.  She attended graduate school at IPFW and received a Master's Degree in School Counseling.

Mrs. Crick is a member of the Indiana School Counselor Association (ISCA), in addition to a member of the American School Counselor Association (ASCA).  She is also a former member of the Indiana School Counselor Association Board of Directors.

A Note from Mrs. Crick

“I'm excited to start another year as your school counselor. As the school counselor, all students have access to visit me if they need extra support. My main goal is to interact with all students and teach skills that set students up for a successful future. Occasionally students have barriers to learning that may require the need of the school counselor.

“Examples of barriers may be anxiety, grief, coping skills, peer conflict, bullying, changing families, behavior issues, social skills, and other things that may arise. Please let me know how I can help your child or family! Here are a few ways I may interact with your child throughout the school year.”

Counseling Program

Students may be referred to the counseling program for behavioral, social, educational, psychological, or familial difficulties.

Counseling services are geared toward student needs and may include, but are not limited to: new student orientation, individual counseling, group counseling, support group participation, referrals, parent contacts, and classroom guidance units.  Referrals may be made by school personnel, parents, and others involved in the educational process.

Groups

Each year I work with several groups to provide extra support to students. Groups are designed based on the needs of each grade level. It is a great way for students to make friends and improve skills. Group topics may include but are not limited to: social skills, school success skills and organization, changing families, self-esteem, friendship, and many more.

Individual Visits

Sometimes students may need a safe place to discuss a topic, such as friendship issues, worries, family relationships, peer conflict, homework issues, etc. Students are able to request to see me and a time will be set up that works best with their classroom teacher.

Classroom Lessons

Life Skills (classroom guidance) lessons are taught approximately once every three weeks in the Life Skills classroom.

Guidance lessons focus on life skills, in addition to following the Indiana School Counseling Competencies for Students. The Indiana School Counseling Competencies for Students cover three areas – Academic, Career, and Social/Emotional (formerly Citizenship) Development. All grades get lessons on bullying as well.

Small Group Counseling

Small group counseling provides a supportive environment for students to express their thoughts and feelings about particular topics with their peers.  These groups, generally comprised of 4-10 students, are short term.  Groups are created based on data and parent, student, or teacher referrals.

Examples of groups offered by Mrs. Crick:

  • social skills

  • grief

  • friendship

  • anger management

  • self-esteem

  • organization and school success skills

  • school attendance matters

  • Zones of Regulation

Parent Referrals

How can I refer my child to the Counselor?

Parents, teachers, and students can make referrals by phone, email, or appointment. Students can leave a note in the mailbox outside my door. When referred, students are seen individually or in small group. Usually, the student and counselor work together to establish an individual goal related to the student's initial concern. While confidentiality is an inherent part of the counseling relationship, children are encouraged to share with parents.

Limits of Confidentiality:

  • Information will be kept confidential unless disclosure is required to prevent clear and imminent danger to the student or others, or when legal requirements (court order) demand that confidential information be revealed.
